From the Mummification museum to the markets of Khan El Khalili, Egypt’s wonders are waiting to be uncovered.
Day 1 Cairo
Welcome to Egypt! We will arrive at the airport and transfer to our comfortable hotel. The rest of the day is free until the group meeting in the evening.
Day 2 Cairo (B,D)
We will enjoy a full day learning all about Egypt's most mysterious marvel - the pyramids. We will visit the fascinating Saqqara or "city of the dead" home to the oldest pyramid in Egypt. We will head to Dashur and venture inside the Red Pyramid to discover its mysterious history first-hand. All of this before the jewel in the crown, a guided tour of the famous Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. In the evening, we will board a sleeper train to travel south to Aswan.
Day 3 Aswan (B,D)
Here we will discover the unique Nile city of Aswan. We will sail along the greatest river in the world on a traditional felucca, taking in the views and learning about the history of Elephantine Island, the Agha Khan Mausoleum and the botanical gardens on Kitchener Island. We will visit a local village and learn about the life of the Nubian people, before enjoying a traditional dinner in a local home.
Day 4 Aswan (B)
We will take a short flight to perhaps the most spectacular of Egypt's temples, Abu Simbel. Be amazed not only by the history of these magnificent edifices, but also by the story of the incredible modern engineering techniques necessary to save them. We will return to Aswan and visit the site of an unfinished obelisk left in Aswan's ancient marble pit for thousands of years, as well as the beautiful temple of Philae.
Day 5 Luxor (B)
We will transfer overland to Luxor. En route we will visit the picturesque riverside temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the Nile crocodile God and the impressively preserved Temple of Edfu. We’ll explore this town, based around its own temple, or spend the afternoon relaxing by the hotel pool.
Day 6 Luxor (B,D)
At the heart of ancient Thebes, Karnak was the most important temple in ancient Egypt. We will tour its mammoth, intricately decorated columns and carvings built to demonstrate the power of the Pharaoh. Next we will visit the Luxor Temple and the unique Mummification Museum, which is a perfect place to learn all the gory details of this ancient art of preserving the dead. For a taste of something truly unique we will enjoy a traditional dinner of Egyptian "pizza" or "manakish" at a local restaurant.
Day 7 Luxor, Cairo (B)
We’ll enjoy a full-day excursion to the monuments of Luxor's West Bank. View the huge Colossos of Memnon, which once guarded the entrance to a massive temple. We will view the tombs cut into the cliffs at the Valley of the Kings, with reliefs so vivid they could have been painted yesterday. We will finish our adventure with the impressive Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. This evening you return on a short flight back to Cairo.
Day 8 Cairo (B,L)
No trip to Egypt would be complete without a visit to the Egyptian Museum. We’ll uncover hundreds of treasures in this quirky old building while our expert museum guide shares their stories. Enjoy a local lunch of kushari, a delicious mix of rice, macaroni and lentils, topped with a fresh tomato sauce before we head to Cairo's famous bazaar, Khan El Khalili. We’ll then have the chance to shop for a bargain or a holiday souvenir.

You may also want to consider the need for a private room during the tour. Please remember to ask for an air quote. It is important however that you do not purchase tickets that carry cancellations penalties until your trip is guaranteed to run.
