Highlights
Cayambe area, Otavalo.
Travel through the stunning Ecuadorian countryside featuring rolling green valleys, wondrous mountain passes and soaring volcanoes. Visit Mitad del Mundo, Spanish for “the middle of the earth” and stand on either side of the equator line. Stay in a historic hacienda then head out to one of the most famous markets in Latin America – Otavalo – and spend your day perusing the very colorful and unique weavings and handicrafts.
Day 1 Cayambe
Experience the excitement of Ecuador! Prepare for an early morning pick up in Quito to Cayambe - famous for its snow-capped, extinct volcano of the same name. We will stop along the way to visit the Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world) and the incredible Pululagua volcano crater. We will stay at an incredible 400-year-old hacienda nestled at the base of the Cayambe Volcano. Explore the historic surroundings of this breathtaking property on horseback following the winding roads or relax poolside and take in the scenic beauty.
Day 2 Otavalo/Area (B,D)
The morning begins with a choice of relaxing at the Hacienda, renting a truck to drive to the Cayambe Volcano Refuge or visiting the Cochasaqui ruins before heading to the Otavalo area in the afternoon. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of a historic Hacienda and spend the afternoon exploring the grounds or enjoying optional activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking or hiking.
Day 3 Otavalo/Quito (B)
Spend all morning visiting the beautiful town of Otavalo and its world famous handcraft market, the largest in South America. There are three main market plazas in town; The Plaza de Ponchos is where we will find colorful woolen ponchos, gloves, hats, blankets and sweaters, as well as a selection of embroidered clothing. The food market and the animal market are for the locals and although they are not designed for visitors, they are cultural experiences definitely worth a visit. Return to Quito for late afternoon.
After choosing your desired tour, you will need to select a departure date that works for you. You can view all of our dates and prices on any tour page. You may also want to consider the need for a private room during the tour. Please remember to ask for an air quote. It is important however that you do not purchase tickets that carry cancellations penalties until your trip is guaranteed to run.
Availability Options
- Available – Trips marked as available means there are at least 4 spots left on your tour.
- On Request– Less than 4 spaces are left, or we need to contact a local supplier, especially in the case of independent tours.
- Waitlist – There is currently no space available, but you can ask to be contacted if anything opens up.
Guaranteed - We guarantee our tours 60 days before departure. Some popular tours are guaranteed before this date. If your tour indicates it is guaranteed, you can proceed to book your international airfare once you receive your booking confirmation.
Inca Trail Status - For Peru trips that involve hiking the Inca Trail permits often sell out many months in advance. Permits can either be available, on request or sold out. If sold out, then you can either take a different hiking route to Machu Picchu or extend your stay in Cuzco and visit Machu Picchu by train. We recommend the sooner you book your trip the better.
