Game Viewing, Arusha, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti Research Centre.

This is the ideal classic East African Safari for animal lovers. Search for the Big 5 – lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants and rhinos in the world famous Serengeti National Park. Explore the remote northern Seronera area to add wildebeests and zebras to your list. Your next destination is the Ngorongoro Crater, a lush grassland that supports a resident population of more than 20,000 large mammals including zebras, gazelles, buffalo, eland and warthogs. The swamp and forest is also home to some of Tanzania's last remaining black rhinos, giant-tusked elephants, waterbucks, baboons and vervet monkeys. Embark on a wildlife adventure to see some of the most amazing animals on our planet all while admiring the breathtaking terrain of Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Mountain.

B - Breakfast | L - Lunch | D - Dinner

Day 1 Arusha

Arrive in Arusha any time and meet at the hotel, near the beautiful Usa River. A brief arrival meeting will be held in the reception area. Usa River is a small, lush, agricultural community that sits just below Mt. Meru, Tanzania's second highest mountain. With views of both Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro on a clear day, it is an ideal base for our Tanzanian safari.

Day 2 Lake Manyara (B,L,D)

We will make our way to Lake Manyara National Park and spend the afternoon touring and viewing wildlife in the park. This area is truly stunning, as the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment provides a backdrop for the abundant bird life, tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos. Lake Manyara National Park is home to the giant fig trees, acacia woodlands, mahogany trees and grassy flood plains. The contrasts of this area are simply breathtaking, with the open plains, huge escarpment, central soda lake, dense woodlands, and distant volcanic peaks.

Day 3-4 Serengeti National Park – Central Serengeti (2B,2L,2D)

This morning, we will drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area onto Serengeti National Park. You will marvel at the multitude of animal and bird life while cruising through the acacia-spotted savannah. We will stop along the way at the archeological site of Olduvai Gorge - "The Cradle of Humankind". We enjoy a brief history of the gorge, followed by a walk along the floor of the gorge with a Ranger. We then pass by the remarkable phenomenon that is the 'Shifting Sands', a barchan dune constantly on the move. On Day 4, we will enjoy an early morning game drive, followed by a visit to a research center. While at the center, we will visit the center's museum and listen to the guide tell us about their wildlife research and conservation efforts. We will return for lunch followed by a brief but well-deserved rest. We continue our search for the "Big 5" - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino - while taking in the vastness of the Serengeti plains.

Day 5 Serengeti National Park – Northern Serengeti (B,L,D)

On Day 5 in the afternoon, after a final game drive in the Seronera area, we will head to a different section of the Serengeti in search of wildebeest and zebra. The "Lobo" area, where we will spend the night, is in the less visited northern part of the Serengeti.

Day 6 Ngorongoro Conservation Area (B,L,D)

Before leaving the Serengeti, we will enjoy one last game drive to see the animal kingdom come to life in this incredible expanse of grassland savannah and visit an ancient musical rock and cave drawing site used by the Masai. We will then journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, famous for Africa's best game viewing. The views from the Ngorongoro Crater rim are stunning, and there is an ever-present abundance of wildlife due to the permanent water supply on the crater floor.

Day 7 Ngorongoro Crater/Arusha (B,L)

Today, we will embark on a half-day crater tour. The rich pasture and permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 20,000 large mammals. Most of the crater floor is grassland, perfect conditions for grazing animals such as zebras, gazelles, buffalo, eland and warthogs. The swamp and forest provide additional resources for hippos, some of Tanzania's last remaining black rhinos, giant-tusked elephants, waterbucks, baboons and vervet monkeys. All these animals in turn support large predators such as lions, leopards and scavengers such as hyenas and jackals. After this fabulous experience within the crater, we will leave the wildlife behind us to visit an authentic Masai village en route back to Arusha. Enjoy one last evening with our travel companions.

Day 8 Arusha (B)
